Intellectual Property Law

Protection of intangible property that is the result of creativity and innovation, such as patents, copyrights, etc.

The firm engages in various matters in the field of intellectual property law to secure and enforce the legal rights of our clients to their inventions, designs, artistic works and other intangible assets.

We have liaised with the Kenya Copyright Board (“KECOBO”) to register copyrights; and extensively dealt with the Kenya Industrial Property Institute (“KIPI”) in trademark, industrial designs, utility models and patent inquiries and registration; and providing representation in infringement of trade mark disputes and passing-off of unregistered trademarks.

We have also advised individuals and corporates on intellectual property matters and in particular on safeguarding their intellectual property rights in an era where the most valuable brands are worth billions of dollars. The firm has liaised with Anti-Counterfeit Agency (“ACA”) on behalf of clients who have suffered from counterfeiting of their products and brand names. We have excellent working relations with Kenya Network Information Centre (“KENIC”), the entity charged with the management and the administration of the dot ke Country Code Top-Level Domain (.ke ccTLD) name in domain name registration, infringement and abusive registration issues.
